Bridal Gown Tips for Chicago Wedding Dresses

Wedding gownFinding a wedding dress may be as stressful and time consuming as planning the entire wedding. Some brides have been dreaming about their wedding dresses for as long as they can remember. Finding the perfect fit for your dress may seem overwhelming, but a flattering gown shape will not only enhance your figure, but will also make you feel comfortable and beautiful on your special day.

There are several different cuts and styles available to brides today. It’s a good idea to have a firm grasp on the different terms in order to avoid miscommunication between you and your salesperson.

The basic shapes are:

  • Ball Gown or Princess Gown - This is the most traditional style. The top of the dress is typically fitted at the bust and waist and leads into a very full-bodied skirt.
  • Empire-Waisted Gown - The defining characteristic of the Empire Gown is the high waistline, usually right below the bust.
  • Princess Seam or A-Line Gown - This gown features seams going down either side of the dress and a slightly flared skirt, creating a beautiful silhouette.
  • Sheath - The sheath gown follows the body closely capturing the slimness of the figure.

Once you know the shapes it is important to analyze your figure and find the best one that works for you.
