Affordable Honeymoons in the Midwest
May 4, 2006
Not everyone has the money to splurge on a $10,000.00 honeymoon. I’ve talked to several brides that were disappointed about not going away to some deserted island in the Pacific for their honeymoon. But, you have so many choices right here in the midwest.
As the wedding planning continues during the engagement, your wedding budget might expand with every passing day. You might get caught up in having a dream wedding at any cost, and might not have enough for that dream honeymoon in the Fiji Islands. No need to despair.
Our beautiful city is surrounded by wonderful landscapes and romantic spots in Michigan, Wisconsin and southern parts of Illinois. One of my favorite getaway spots is Saugatuck, Michigan. I love the energy and the people and the beaches are awesome.
When my husband and I were tossing around ideas for a honeymoon, we talked about having it at Martha’s Vineyard, which is located in between South Haven and Saugatuck. It’s very quiet, the owners are so incredibly sweet and they have semi-private access to a beach. You have to walk about 10-15 minutes to get to the beach, or they can take you in a golf cart. The breakfasts are to-die for.
Door County, Wisconsin, is another wonderfully romantic location that’s about 3.5 - 4 hours away from Chicago. You can rent a cottage on the bay like we did, or you can stay at a bed & breakfast in Sturgeon Bay, Egg Harbor or any of the other sites in Door County
The point is that you have options. Yes, you can have a honeymoon and I highly recommend it. I’ve talked to people that skipped the honeymoon due to budgetary constraints and they regret that decision. Even if you just get away for 3 days with your fiance’, it’s worth it. You’d be surprised at what a difference that makes.
Take care!
