Bridezillas: The License to be Mean
July 19, 2005
This might make me very unpopular right now, but I don’t support the idea of Bridezilla behavior.
I watched a segment of “The View” this morning and they spotlighted three Bridezillas from the popular series on the WE cable channel. All three of them snapped at one point during the engagement. One bride fired a wedding vendor the day before the wedding. Another bride’s breaking point occurred over the seating arrangements. She decided that she couldn’t make everyone happy and that her guests would have to deal with it. The last bride went off on a vendor because she might not have a DJ due to insurance reasons.
When did it become okay for a person to go off on anyone? Are we giving brides the license to be mean simply because it’s their special day?
I can’t support that. Bad behavior is bad behavior. We all have our moments, but we have a responsibility to treat everyone – wedding vendors included – with respect on a regular basis.
Again, I believe that perfectionism is the root of all bad Bridezilla behavior. The wedding is not going to be perfect because NOTHING is perfect. We’re human and we all have flaws. One bride was so stressed out about planning the perfect wedding that her hair actually started falling out. Is it worth it?
The husbands of the infamous Bridezillas were all on the show and admitted that their brides went nuts during the engagement. One husband even mentioned that he was nervous everyday and supported her ranting because he didn’t want to get in trouble. He said she went back to normal after the wedding. That’s great, but is this the best way to start a marriage?
The show was shot here in Chicago a few months ago, so I’m sure we’ll hear more about our homegrown Bridezillas.
Have a great one!
