Choosing Chicago Wedding Officiants & Ministers

Many couples have a difficult time in choosing the right Chicago wedding officiant or Chicago minister to perform their wedding ceremony.  We have a plethora of wedding officiants and ministers based in the Chicagoland area, so how do you go about selecting one for your wedding.

Here are some thoughts to consider:

1) Availability:  Is the Chicago wedding officiant really available for your wedding?  Some wedding officiants double and triple book on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and you might want to find out if he or she can really perform your wedding ceremony.  If they’re overbooked, they might not have the right amount of energy to help you create a very special ceremony for you and your guests.  You don’t want to be stuck with another cookie-cutter wedding with your guests counting the minutes to your alcohol-laden wedding reception.

2) Moral viewpoints and convictions:  Some couples want to be married by someone with similar morals and values to their own.  They want to feel comfortable with the wedding officiant who will help them spiritually prepare for their wedding.  That being said, some couples will take into consideration whether the wedding officiant performs same-sex commitment ceremonies.  I’ve heard tales that some straight couples decided not to work with an officiant that refused to perform same-sex unions.  They felt that the Chicago minister was too conservative for their wedding.

3) Price/Rates:  This is an obvious point, but one that still needs to be mentioned.  Hire someone that’s in your budget or someone that’s willing to work with you.  Some officiants are firm on their rates while others will perform wedding ceremonies for couples that can’t afford to pay their standard rates.  If the couple negotiates a better rate with their wedding officiant, then it wouldn’t be a good idea to have an opulent wedding.  The wedding officiant or minister might be a little perturbed if they see miles and miles of floral arrangements at the Chicago ceremony location.
