The Allure of Sponsored Weddings
September 11, 2005
Some couples are coming up with very unique ways to defray the cost of having a wedding in Chicago. A few brides have contacted vendors in the Chicagoland area to see if they would be interested in sponsoring weddings. In a sponsored wedding, vendors will usually forego their rates in order to advertise their business during the wedding. Sometimes couples include contact information for all of their vendors in the wedding programs or in mini-brochures at the reception.
There is a wide range of opinions on the topic of sponsored weddings. Vendors that have recently entered the industry might welcome the idea of sponsoring a wedding with the hope of getting the word out about their business. Many of the vendors I’ve talked to are not interested in sponsoring weddings. They have bills to pay and they can’t afford to donate their services for free. They are more willing to create special packages for couples who have very limited funds.
I’ll be frank. The idea of sponsored weddings rubs me the wrong way. There are plenty of ways to reduce the cost of getting married in lieu of turning the wedding into a marketing event. Next thing you know, the wedding program looks like the back of a church bulletin.
Generally, many brides will voluntarily get the word out about their favorite vendors. They want to help their friends and loved ones hire responsible vendors to help them create their own dream wedding.
Have a great one!
