Wedding Chicago: Adding that Personal Touch

Hi, all!

Okay, how many of you have been to about 5 weddings in the last 3 years?  Yeah, me too.  I love seeing my friends get married to good people.  It renews my faith in the idea of marriage and gives me a chance to witness the commitment two people have for each other.

That being said, there is an element of repetition to many of these weddings.  The walk down the aisle, spiritual readings during the ceremony, cutting of the cake, the best man speech, the first dance, etc.  Why do many of us keep these rituals in our own wedding?  I can only speak for myself, but I wanted to experience the rituals firsthand with my then-fiance’.  We added special touches to give our wedding a unique flavor, but it wouldn’t have been the same for me if I had completely eliminated the standard fare.

One way to add that personal touch to your wedding is through your music.  One of our couples considered hiring flamenco guitarists to lead the processional from the church to the reception site, located only a block away.  I’m adding an article tomorrow from Jan Janz, owner of the Suzuki Music School of Lincoln Park, with tips on selecting musicians for your wedding.

Another way to make your celebration unique is through your pre-wedding events.  Caravan Beads in Lakeview hosts private parties for brides and their friends to create their own jewelry.  They have a great selection of beads that are different shapes, colors and sizes.  This would be a fun way to have quality time with the members of your bridal party and create special jewelry pieces that will last for years on end.  Plus, this is a more affordable way to acquire wedding accessories to match the bridesmaid dresses.  They’re located near Whole Foods on Lincoln Avenue, but feel free to check out the Caravan Beads website

Have a great day!
