Wedding Chicago: Hiring the Right DJ
July 21, 2005
A good DJ can make or break a Chicago wedding reception. I know that’s a pretty big statement to make, but I thoroughly believe it.
Any DJ that’s worth his or her salt will have a good feel for the audience. They’ll sense when the energy starts to lag and will quickly play music to get people moving on their feet. If the guests have a less-than-enthusiastic response to the couple’s songlist, the DJ will improvise with different types of music.
One couple I know asked their DJ to play Latin music for the dancing part of the reception. For some reason, the audience didn’t rise to their feet until he threw a few ‘70s songs into the mix. Once they were up, they danced to just about everything.
I have attended a few wedding receptions that had sub-par DJs. Either they were overly enthusiastic, or they ignored their duties altogether. One DJ remained in his chair the entire time and only played old-fashioned music that would have suited a different crowd. Needless to say, the party ended a couple of hours early and we were out of there before midnight.
Jay Turner of Sound Emotion Entertainment regularly provides professional DJ service to his clients. He’s a Chicago DJ with a lot of experience creating hip & fun wedding receptions.
Be sure to check the references of any DJs on your short list. Their former clients will give you the scoop on their ability as an emcee and a DJ.
Have a great day!
