Wedding Chicago: Hunting for Reception Sites
May 19, 2005
Hi, all. I can’t believe it’s so grey outside in our lovely city. What is it with the weather this year? It’s hard to believe that summer will ever come!
So, I was talking to a bride last night in desperate need of a reception site that falls within her budget. We have a ton of sites in the Chicagoland area, but it’s hard to find one to accommodate all of your needs. I suggested finding an art gallery or studio that would allow her to have a cocktail reception. I’ve met a few brides that have had great success doing this. That way couples have a cool and funky space without the price tag of a full sit-down dinner reception.
I would also suggest having a luncheon reception at their favorite restaurant. She and her fiance’ would already know the quality of the food and they might be able to get a deal since it’s at an off-peak time. To cut costs even further, couples could have a luncheon or an afternoon tea reception on a Friday or a Sunday. Vendors will often discount their rates if you get married on any day other than a Saturday.
Another bride contacted me recently with her request to have a downtown wedding reception but wanted to make sure that the food would be outstanding. Recommendations and referrals are so important in this business. You don’t want to be stuck with a gorgeous location that has mediocre catering abilities. Your guests will remember the food. I worked on a wedding at the W Hotel last year, and I still remember the amazing prime rib dinner.
Be sure to check out our article on Hot Reception Sites. If you have any suggestions for these brides, please send a comment to this entry. It can never hurt to help each other out.
