Wedding Chicago: Planning with Sanity
July 11, 2005
My husband often jokes that we were happily engaged for all of two days. Once we announced our engagement, our family and friends bombarded us with wedding planning questions such as: What’s the date? Have you booked your reception site yet? Who’s the photographer? Did you pick out a dress? Out of panic and sheer frustration I bought five wedding magazines from the closest bookstore and dog-eared different pages as soon as I got home.
What was the rush? Why does the industry support this type of wedding mania? I could have easily turned into a runaway bride or, even worse, a bridezilla if I had fallen for the feeding frenzy. It’s true that some wedding vendors and reception sites get booked 12-18 months ahead of time, but there’s no need to panic. Your wedding will be beautiful whether or not you book Cafe Brauer, the Shedd Aquarium or the Four Seasons hotel.
Having worked in the wedding industry for a few years now, I can tell you that there’s enough time for you and your fiance’ to plan the wedding that you really want. Try to stay focused on the present. Everything will turn out just fine.
