Wedding Chicago: Sharing Responsibilities
July 12, 2005
Good morning, everyone!
What is it about weddings that make women crazy? Okay, not all women, but I admit that I went a little nutty for the first few months of the engagement.
Yesterday, I wrote about buying all of the wedding magazines with the hope of hiring my first pick of wedding vendors. In my wedding mania I neglected to involve my husband in the process. He was very agreeable and patiently waited for the wedding storm to pass. Unfortunately, my lapse of sanity took a little longer than expected but I eventually snapped back reality.
A friend of mine suggested that my husband and I plan our wedding as a team. I hesitated because I felt that I would do a much better job at making appointments and creating a short list of wedding vendors. She reminded me that the task of planning a wedding could foreshadow our life together. If I try to control everything at this stage of the game, the marriage might stumble before it even gets out of the gate. A good relationship is based on trust, not control.
After that conversation, my husband and I started creating our wedding together. He and I split the wedding responsibilities down the middle and consulted each other on every decision. We created a wedding that was unique, elegant and perfectly reflected the love we have for each other.
Have a great day!
