Bridal Chicago Wedding Planning
October 9, 2006
I was talking to a bride last week who became engaged on a Monday and by Thursday she was already trying to plan the wedding. She and her fiance’ were coming up with ideas for the wedding and trying to make hard and fast decisions after having been engaged for all of four days. I suggested that they slow down and take it one step at a time.
There is no rule in the universe that states that you absolutely must book your reception site as soon as you get engaged. What about taking the time to discover a vision for your wedding without fear that your absolutely favorite reception site might get taken right out from under you. If you breathe and relax into the wedding planning process with your partner, you might find a better reception site that will work for both of you.
The wedding industry is based on fear. Here’s the fear: If you don’t do “a, b and c”, then you might get stuck with sub-standard wedding service providers. First of all, there are hundreds of wedding vendors in the Chicagoland area that are more than qualified to provide exemplary service to you and your fiance’.
Some wedding photographers, for example, are very well known and booked over a year ahead of time. Other photographers are just as talented and teach at local colleges & universities, but they don’t have the same amount of fame as other photographers. Does that mean that they aren’t as good as the others who are well known?
This is why I always suggest that couples take at least one week after their engagement to simply be engaged. This is a transition that deserves time and attention because you’re preparing a new life together. An engagement is not just the period during which you plan this big ‘ole party.
Have a good one!
