Chicago Wedding Dresses for All Sizes
April 20, 2007
Wedding dresses are not created just for stick-shaped women. They are created for women of all shapes and sizes. In my opinion, bridal events and fashion shows have a responsibility to showcase models with curves, alongside traditionally thin models.
We recently did the Wedding Chicago Bridal Brunch and Fashion Show at the Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel and made a conscious decision to include models in the fashion show with curvy figures. We made this decision because too much pressure is placed on women to lose a ton of weight before their wedding. This is absolutely ridiculous. Why aren’t women fine the way they are?
I will be the first to admit that I, myself, chose to lose some weight before my wedding through Weight Watchers. It was great, I felt better about myself and I didn’t feel the pressure to lose a lot of weight overnight. I recommend making a healthy lifestyle change such as this one with the help and guidance from fitness and health professionals.
However, too many women stress out before their wedding because they aren’t a size 2, size 4 or the elusive size 6. Believe it or not, a woman can be fit and in shape at a size 12. It’s not about the size number.
I run across too many women in this business that go on crash diets in order to look unbelievably thin before their wedding. That’s not the right reason to make a lifestyle change.
The women in our fashion show are different shapes and sizes and they all look great. Several of them have gorgeous curves and they are truly working those dresses.
Just as in the “Dove” commercials, it warms my heart to see women of all sizes in the media or the public eye because it makes me feel better about myself. It’s time that we accept that not every bride will be a size 6 and she, too, will be radiant at her wedding.
