Chicago's Non-Profit Florist - Urban Meadows

Dorcas Johnson, owner of the greeting card company Blessed Star Cards, recently told me about the good works that were being done at Urban Meadows, a floral design company located in the heart of downtown Chicago.

Urban Meadows is owned by Thresholds Rehabilitation Industries and provides horticultural therapy to individuals suffering from varying degrees of mental illness.  According to an article by Aamer Madhani in the Chicago Tribune, the floral designers take great pride in their work and build their self-esteem through the care they give their flowers.

Although I am not a gardener by any stretch of the imagination, I can understand the confidence that one can gain through gardening and horticulture.  If a person has battled depression for most of his or her life, imagine the hope that person may feel by tending a garden and watching their seeds come to life.

Urban Meadows offers pretty reasonable rates on their floral design packages, and they also have ongoing specials.  If you decide to hire them for your rehearsal dinner or any other pre-wedding party, you’ll know that your hard-earned money is helping other human beings grow and become stronger in spite of their disability.

One last note...because Urban Meadows is a non-profit organization, your purchases are tax-deductible.  Now, how do you like that?  At the end of the year, every little bit helps.

You can check out their website here:  Urban Meadows

Take care, and have a great one!
