Chicago Wedding Reception Sites in the Chicago Park District
June 16, 2006
The South Shore Cultural Center and Promontory Point are two affordable Chicago wedding reception sites for couples looking to save money while planning their wedding.
The South Shore Cultural Center is one of the hidden jewels of Hyde Park that has a very expansive ballroom. There are a ton of windows at the South Shore Cultural Center and lots of room for a large Chicago wedding.
The best parts about the South Shore Cultural Center are the affordable rates. You can rent either the solarium or the dining room at the Center for under $2,000.00, which includes 8- hours of space rental. South Shore Cultural Center is located at 7059 S. Shore Dr.

The other Chicago wedding reception site that will fit into almost any budget is Promontory Point in Hyde Park. Promontory Point is also a Chicago Park District facility but offers great views for very low rates. Not many brides know about this location, so it’s always a blast to tell them about the Point.
Promontory Point is located at 5491 S. Lake Shore Dr. and has a great deal of character. It’s not as big as the South Shore Cultural Center, but it has great rates and terrific views. You can rent the Field House, the Lakefront Patio and the Front Patio for under $1,200.00. That’s a steal! I knew a couple that had their wedding ceremony and reception at Promontory Point. Their Chicago wedding florist did a terrific job on the decor of the building. A number of University of Chicago grad students also reserve the Point for weddings and other receptions.
Check out the website for Promontory Point.
As I always say, it doesn’t have to cost a fortune to have a wedding here in the Chicagoland area. It’s just important to do your research so that you can pick up a few great deals along the way.
Take care!
