Groom Invites All to His Wedding

According to KXLY TV, a groom invited everyone within the state of Idaho to his wedding reception, strangers and all.  Unbeknownst to his bride-to-be, Alex Smith put an ad in the local newspaper inviting the residents of Spokane, Northern Idaho and the entire region to his wedding reception.  He didn’t tell his future wife about his grand plans until after he ordered the ad.

The couple officially got married in April of this year, but the groom wants everyone to join he and his bride for this memorable wedding celebration.  He’s already received more than one hundred phone calls for this weekend’s wedding.  His family and crews are setting up a large tent for the big party on the couple’s nineteen acres of land.  Mr. Smith doesn’t even care if 1000 people come to his reception.  He says, “I don’t care if 2,000 people show up.  The more the merrier.  It’s going to be a fun time.  I hope everybody shows up.”

I’ve never heard of anything like this before.  Usually couples are so concerned about their guest list and the money that they have to spend in order to create the wedding of their dreams within their budget.  I don’t know how I’d feel having strangers celebrate our special day, but I always enjoy participating in baptisms at church.  I rarely know the families but I’m so happy to witness such a special occasion.

I don’t think I’d like to crash a stranger’s wedding, even though it’s an excuse to have a good time at someone else’s expense.  But, if it works for the couple, that’s the most important thing.

Have a great one!
